On Friday, February 20, we spent the day documenting the Oncofertility Saturday Academy, this was our third shoot day for this project, that night we had the honor of being on hand to do a multi-camera event for the farewell Gala at Pick-Staiger for the outgoing University President Henry Bienen and Professor of Law Leigh Bienen.

Tuesday, February 24, we did two sessions, one set of morning interview, and one afternoon shoot for B-roll in the scene shop for the U.R. produced BigTen Waa Mu documentary. Today, we are on the Chicago campus for the State of the Medical School Address by the Dean of Medical School. Thursday and Friday are scheduled video shoots with the Faculty and Students of the Bienen Music School for a different BigTen video production, about the NU Jazz ensemble and Jazz Program Director Victor Goines.

Seven shoots, eight days, keep those camera batteries charged, and if needed, keep “The Phial of Galadriel” handy for additional fill light.

Big 10 Jazz Orchestra

img_2410Tonight NUAMPS is shooting the Northwestern Jazz Orchestra, led by Victor Goines and Christopher Madsen, on stage at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall as a part of our spring program featuring NU Jazz for University Relations and the Big 10 Network.  The program is being directed by yours truly.

Goines, a world-renowned saxophonist and clarinetist, and member or the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra,  joined Northwestern as the new director of jazz studies in the spring of 2008.  Shooting this afternoon’s rehearsal before the main event tonight, it was evident that Professors Goines and Madsen are both outstanding teachers and musicians, and their arrival signals the beginning of a new and exciting chapter of jazz studies at Northwestern.

Midsummer Night’s Dream

This weekend, NUAMPS will be shooting the School of Music’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.  This is the ninth opera that NUAMPS has produced for the School of Music, starting in spring of 2005 with The Magic Flute.  I’ve worked on every single one, directing all but the first one – they’re consistently great productions, and I’d encourage everyone to check them out.  They’re available at Northwestern’s new YouTube page: http://www.youtube.com/northwesternu.  I’ll post photos of this weekend’s production early next week.
